I have a new 3130 GST and I'm thoroughly enjoying it. While it has not been a problem, I have noticed when going uphill a pause when changing gears that can cause the unit to lose forward motion. Can the speed/time it takes the transmission to change gears when you shift be adjusted? Thanks, Jim

I think the pause is normal and it allows the system to equalize the TX shaft speeds. Some systems pause more than others but there's no adjustment I've heard of. A bit of foot throttle if shifting down during the pause may help. That would be sort of a double clutching idea. I'm pretty sure all GST's also have clutches and using the clutch in those situations may be the solution. Of course, the best solution is never shift on hills. Bogging down on hills can be pretty hairy so it's better to be sure the gear used at the bottom is going to make it to the top. ....

After a while you will know which gears work best if a given situation. It is a lot easier to stop at the bottom of the hill and choose a lower gear there.
When in doubt, it is certainly wise to pick a gear too low and lose a little time than to select one too high and get into trouble. ....

The hill I'm referring to here is a 3% grade. I am excavating the soil for the addition to my barn. I'm carrying the load downhill for 150', dump, and then return uphill. The excavating I do in 1st or 2nd and then shift into 3rd going downhil. I shift into a lower gear when I approach the dumping area, stop, dump, put the shuttle in reverse, put it in forward and then shift into a higher gear on my way up the hill.
Are you suggesting that I'm doing harm to the transmisssion by shifting when going uphill? If so, I guess I should shift into the higher gear before putting the shuttle into forward. I'm still learning, so I appreciate the advice. Jim ....

No harm done other then a choice in timing, I would be a little lower in RPM and shift into third at the start then throttle up and not be shifting on a hill or grade. Yours is not much of a grade but think of if it was a standard gear drive and you missed a gear change! The glide shift is a nice option over the standard type and there are some quicker shifting power shift style transmissions in some of the bigger tractors but they are not nearly as fuel efficient as the Glideshift. ....

I'm not sure I want to adjust it as I've become accustomed to the current set up. But it would be nice to know how you can change it. Can you give the details. Thanks, Jim ....
